Lenten Reflection: “The Purpose of Penance”

As part of its 2019 Lenten Reflection Series, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception invited Fr. Aquinas Guilbeau, OP, the prior of the Dominican House of Studies, to offer a meditation on “The Purpose of Penance.” In his reflection, Fr. Guilbeau drew on the insights of St. Thomas Aquinas to explain the short-term and long-term goals of Lenten penance.
